A wedding at Briar Patch B & B in Middleburg, VA is the perfect escape away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This year, Leap Day landed on a Saturday and Alison & Chris jumped right in to planning their dream day. When I first heard they were planning a leap day wedding, I asked if they would only celebrate their wedding anniversary every four years. They instead replied that they intended to celebrate for two days (28 February AND 1 March) on non-leap years, thus doubling the wedding anniversary fun!
Although initially cautious about making too many frog themed parts to their wedding, Alison & Chris both enjoyed the idea of embracing the theme of leaping frogs tastefully throughout their day. And they nailed it!
Wedding invitations were sent using frog stamps from the US Postal Service.
And the ring bearer’s pillow was adorned with a gorgeous rhinestone encrusted frog.
The colors Alison & Chris chose for their wedding were purple & green. Alison loved succulents and their wedding florist absolutely brought this look together for their in her bridal bouquet.
No Wedding Look is complete without the perfect pair of shoes. Alison is a HUGE fan of chucks and knew she wanted to wear a pair down the aisle. She took on a super fun DIY project for her shoes and bedazzled them with rhinestones & pearls. Can you imagine how comfortable she must have been dancing all night in a pair of chucks?
Alison chose a classic tailored wedding dress with plunging neck and low back. As I often find, although we look for “the perfect place for the dress,” I often still most love the image where is landed most authentically. For couples getting ready for their Briar Patch Wedding, they have the option to get dressed in this tiny charming cottage. I love the exposed beams and rustic floors.
Another view of the super fun wedding chucks!
Chris & Alison weren’t the only ones that got dressed up on their wedding day. Their pups did too. This little lady took a quick peak in the mirror to see how she looked.
Chris got ready for this Briar Patch Wedding in Middleburg in the main house. The main house is full of light and lots of incredible nooks & angles for photography.
Would a Leap Day Wedding be complete without Frog socks for the groom? I don’t think so!
Leap Day this year was cool & blustery and although we had hoped for an outdoor first look, it seems the weather had other plans. Chris and Alison instead chose to have their first look in the ceremony location just across from the cottage. And it was perfect!
These two are pretty much completely smitten with each other….and it shows. Fun Story about the couple: Alison is the one who asked Chris to marry her! He said “yes!”
We chose to do some of the wedding day portraits inside, due to the weather. February weddings often call for indoor portraits. Briar Patch is an excellent location for indoor wedding portraits.
The Wedding Party is often what makes the wedding the most fun! This ring bearer and flower girl were so cute! ….and by choosing a small wedding party, Chris & Alison were really able to spend more time with everyone at their wedding rather than just a few people.
We popped back into the cottage for a few more photos with their pups. Dogs are often family too!…and if yours are, then absolutely chat with me about ways to incorporate them into your wedding day.
Wedding Ceremonies at Briar Patch are held in the building across from the main house. The area is charming and classic with a chandelier hanging from the ceiling and the coziness of the fireplace behind.
Chris’s parents have been married for more than 30 years. It’s such an incredible legacy and it was so sweet to see them still holding hands during the ceremony.
The Leap Day theme continued into the place cards with frogs across the top of each card.
Alison’s step-mother created these unique and delightfully whimsical centerpieces for each table. Every single one was different and their own tiny world.
The Wedding Favors for this Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast Wedding in Middleburg, VA were tiny potted succulents with pots hand decorated by the bride.
The Wedding Cake was decorated to match the bride’s wedding bouquet and featured gum paste succulents, and anemones. It also featured the couples entire menagerie peaking from beneath a layer of fondant and included caricatures of the couple’s two dogs and three kitties.
Desserts also included Leap Day themed sugar cookies!
Despite the cool & blustery weather, we still popped out for some
The reception space at Briar Patch is generous and comfortably fit Alison & Chris’s wedding. In addition to their indoor space, they also have a beautiful outdoor area that would be a dream for a spring or summer wedding.
What to get your wedding guests actually interested in the bouquet & garter toss? Alison & Chris re-imaged their own bouquet & garter toss and it was a hit. Instead of promising a future wedding of your own, they offered super fun booze-y prizes.
