I believe in marriage and love that lasts. I believe in families that adore each other and relish spending time together. I believe life is beautiful, albeit a messy kind of beautiful. …and I want to embrace and remember every minute of it because I believe this is what matters and the things we do today will be our legacy for generations to come. I believe photography should be timeless in style and tell more about you than about the photographer who took it. I believe photographs are the best way to take the moments and save them for a time when we need them most.

I’m Erin and the artist behind Erin Tetterton Photography. I didn’t set out in life to be a photographer. I originally wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up, but after realizing passing calculus wasn't one of my super powers, I changed course. (Although I did pick up a handful of pilot's licenses along the way.) I instead found myself in art school telling the story of my own life and marriage through photographs.

I’ve always been drawn to black and white portraiture and spent several years shooting black and white film and developing it in the dark room. My love for color grew out of painting. My current photographic style is heavily influenced both by my time in the darkroom and years spent painting.

In my free time I love to visit the Hirschhorn, the Freer, and the National Gallery of Art here in Washington DC. My favorite artists are Caravaggio, Klee, Edward Westin, & Wayne Theibaud. Modern art wasn’t one of my first loves, but I can make a compelling argument for why everyone should appreciate Rothko, Agnes Martin, & the like.

I could not have gone with a better photographer for my wedding. Erin is THE BEST by far!!! She's so sweet, funny, and amazingly talented. Not only that, but she is extremely diligent, responsive, and knowledgeable.

Being an artist myself, I very much appreciate her artistic style when it comes to photography. Her style is very sincere, thoughtful, and romantic, which is exactly what I was hoping for. The photos are beautiful with attention to detail and particularly special and individual moments. She took amazing dancing pictures as well, and I most especially love the ones where I'm dancing with my mom. My father looks so genuinely happy in the photos, and I'm so grateful she was able to capture that. My husband's father looked extremely thoughtful and wise in his photos, which I know my husband loved.

She doesn't take pictures just to take pictures. She puts a lot of thought into how she captures a moment and has a great eye. I can't stop looking at my photos!

Erin was such a joy to work with!!  Leading up to our wedding, Erin always made herself available to answer questions, walk through our venue, and make sure she had a thorough understanding of everything we wanted her to capture during our special day. I honestly don't think I ever waited more than a couple hours for a response! She and her assistant, did an amazing job of wrangling our crew and making our event look so elegant and timeless while blending seamlessly into the background!

Within just two and a half weeks, Erin sent us a link to all the photos from the day, perfectly organized into albums and available for immediate download. We spent a few days pouring over all the images and reliving our wedding day! It was the perfect way to come home from our honeymoon! We would highly, highly recommend Erin-- she's amazingly talented, generous with her time, and so, so great to work with!

This note is to let you know how pleased I am with our newborn photos! My favorite, from an artistic standpoint, is the one of Joaquin and his mobile. It reminds me of a photo in the Art Institute of Chicago of a woman looking up at an Alexander Calder sculpture in the National Gallery. Very nicely done!

Thank you again for taking time to shoot and curate such a beautiful collection. You have an incredible gift.
