You don’t have to know me well to know that I despise winter and the weather that goes with it with a capital “D.” However, I will admit that for all the negatives of winter weather (the temperature, the stifling amount of clothing needed, etc) snow is REALLY pretty in photos. Sooooo…..I took a break from hiding in my blanket fort with a warm bowl of homemade soup and some hot chocolate to head out for a few rounds of snow day portraits.
I’m obsessed with the results! …..and although there was three feet of snow on the ground, it would in the 50s during the day for the following week, which made this all possible.
Did you know that the light in the winter (northern hemisphere) is the most flattering light you will have all year? Photographers talk about “Golden Hour,” which refers to that late afternoon/evening light that is the perfect shade of golden and in the winter it really does last an entire hour. …..while in the summer when the days are short, it’s a VERY quick 20 minutes. I also love to look of trees in the winter. The muted neutrals a the perfect complement to nearly every look and the spindly, naked branches add a dramatic architectural element.
My own little one rocking my favorite handmade hat. Made by yours truly. I also did a mess of knitting this week! She may have a new one before long.
All these winter hats!
Do you love winter? ….or is a different season your favorite?
Hi I’m Erin and the artist behind Erin Tetterton Photography. Welcome to the photographic THE ARCHIVES.
I believe our lives are divine orchestrations. We each have a story and I believe they are stories that deserve to be told and told well. From Weddings, to Babies, and to celebrate the years we are just glad to have behind us. The photos I take are the images that tell the story. Your own history. Your family’s history. ….and the history of those generations that are to come.
My goal is to create authentic, timeless imagery that accurately depicts each phase of your life. Those phases will be different, unique, and beautiful. Inject humor! Do them in a place you love!
