Woodend Sanctuary Wedding | Chevy Chase, MD

WEDDING

Erin & Mike chose a cozy winter Woodend Sanctuary Wedding in Chevy Chase, MD.  Woodend Sanctuary was built in 1927 and designed by John Russell Pope, who is the same architect that built DAR Constitution Hall & Jefferson memorial among other notable Washington DC wedding venues.  In 1967 the home was donated to the Audubon Naturalist Society, which is now headquartered there.  Woodend Sanctuary is often used for weddings, as well as social & business functions.

The United States Postal Service issued a National Audubon Society stamp worth 5 cents in the 1960s, which perfectly coordinated with these semi-custom invitations.

Birds are creatively hidden throughout the decor of the Woodend Sanctuary Mansion and so much fun to work into the photographs of these bridal details.

In addition to her own engagement ring, Erin wore an heirloom emerald cocktail ring as her “something old,” which was handed down from her grandmother.  Mike also paid homage to his father by choosing to have the interior of his wedding bed done in yellow gold to remind him of his father.

Erin’s veil was handmade by her mother.

Erin & Mike chose calla lilies, hydrangeas, greenery,  & roses in ivory as their flowers for this Woodend Sanctuary Wedding.

Erin further customized her wedding dress by adding a custom 3/4 length sleeve lace jacket with a rhinestone belt and buttons up the back.  The lace and the sleeve length made her dress the quintessential winter wedding dress.Woodend Sanctuary Wedding with Washington Dc Wedding Photographer, Erin Tetterton Photography

Mike chose a custom tailored gray suit from J. Hilburn as his attire.  By choosing to purchase a new suit for his wedding, he not only got the perfect fit, but the custom suit will also serve as a special memento from their wedding day at Woodend Sanctuary.

One of the favorite Woodend Sanctuary wedding moments is when the bride descends the Woodend mansion’s grand staircase.

I’m absolutely in love with the combination of the white lace and greenery hung on the dark wooden staircase.

Erin & Mike chose to do a first look under Woodend Sanctuary’s east portico.

The architecture of this portico at Woodend reminds me a little of the architecture from the Jefferson Memorial.

The weather was so perfect on their wedding day and we popped out more than once for portraits.  I love the way the golden hour light filters through the trees during the winter at Woodend Sanctuary.

Woodend Sanctuary is one of my personal favorite wedding venues in the Washington DC area.  The mansion itself is so beautiful that even simple touches such as the greenery hung along the banister of the grand staircase are all you need for perfect wedding decorations.

Mike and Erin chose Alex Sincevich of the Dapper DJs as their wedding DJs.  In addition to spinning all of our modern wedding day favorites, the Dapper DJs also brought along antique record players and served up some old favorites on vinyl during cocktail hour.

Many Woodend Sanctuary weddings are held outside; however, this January wedding was held indoors in front of the fire place giving it a cozy feel.

The wall sconces at Woodend Sanctuary are already beautiful, but the posy of flowers and navy ribbon at just the right amount of festivity to the look.
