This is Danielle Muench, the artist behind the incredible (and edible) wedding cake creations of Fleur and Flour. Fleur and Flour is most known for Danielle’s floral bas relief creations, as well as her sugar flowers, which are inspired by both the beauty and imperfections of natural flowers.

Danielle’s flowers are technically edible; however, WAY to pretty to eat in my opinion are made of gum paste and hand painted to add dimension.

The shelves of Fleur and Flour’s studio are full of example cakes to show decoration options.  Even these butterflies are made of sugar. <3 ….AND the fondant on the cake is pressed with eatable flowers.

Danielle uses, bas relief, the ancient art-form of creating raised textures to create designs to makes much of the floral designs on her wedding cakes.  This intensive process includes hours of creating pieces in gum paste molds.

The outcome of both the bas relief and the sugar flowers together create a wedding cake unlike any other baker in the Washington DC area.

Each sugar flower created by Fleur and Flour is hand painted to add dimension before being added to the wedding cakes.

The entire process is a labor of love.

These dogwood flowers look surprisingly real and would be an absolutely amazing add to a spring wedding cake!
