Finding inspiring things, such as this Flower Arranging Workshop with Helen Olivia Flowers to try while being home these last couple of weeks has been incredible! Northern Virginia is especially beautiful in the spring with blooming trees & flowers everywhere. Usually I’m busy with back to back photography sessions in the tidal basin, but with the health concerns this year, I’ve moved those sessions out to May and June and will move them again as needed. SO until then, I’m committed to both doing creative things and as possible supporting innovative local business as we all navigate these unprecedented times.
The real genius of this flower arranging workshop with Helen Olivia is that you can do it from home without contact from other people! Making it the PERFECT activity for social distancing. I’ve received delivered flower arrangements before — after all delivery is something florists know all about….but this time it arrived as a bucket of flowers, a vase in a bag, a set of instructions, and the timing for a an online class later that evening.
A vase that was pre-taped with a floral grid
A bucket of flowers to include:
Scabiosa
Helebores
Pink Roses (Pink Eskimo)
Peach Roses
White Hydrangeas
Green Baby Hydrangeas
Ranunculus
Greenery
Spray Roses
We supplied the scissors & a paring knife. 🙂
I watched the videos by myself the night they came on, but waited until the following morning to do the actual arranging in hope of letting my daughter (she’s almost 6) help. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure she would be that into this activity, but she was! ….and she did most of the work.
We started with preparing and placing hydrangeas.
Then we prepared & placed the roses.
The Flower Arranging Workshop was incredibly thorough. My daughter enjoyed picking off the guard petals the most.
Pretty much every other day at our house has been pajama day since school closed. ….and with the adorable Hanna Anderson pajamas, I can’t say I might. Besides, it’s perfectly acceptable to wear pajamas to a flower arranging workshop when you do it from home.
At almost six, my little was able to do pretty much everything she needed to do for this flower arranging workshop, except cut the stems correctly with the scissors and knife (I did that part).
….and here is a photo of our final arrangement! I’m so grateful to have found something fun that both my daughter and I enjoyed doing together during this time of social distancing, but also enjoyed being able to support an incredibly innovative business coming up with ways to make our lives and home…..errr…..now also home offices a little more beautiful during these times of uncertainty.
Hi I’m Erin and the artist behind Erin Tetterton Photography. Welcome to the photographic THE ARCHIVES.
I believe our lives are divine orchestrations. We each have a story and I believe they are stories that deserve to be told and told well. From Weddings, to Babies, and to celebrate the years we are just glad to have behind us. The photos I take are the images that tell the story. Your own history. Your family’s history. ….and the history of those generations that are to come.
My goal is to create authentic, timeless imagery that accurately depicts each phase of your life. Those phases will be different, unique, and beautiful. Inject humor! Do them in a place you love!
