It feels like yesterday when I was photographing BIG BROTHER’s Newborn Session. ….and now watching him as a an older sibling welcoming his little sister during her own Newborn Session was absolutely precious and precisely what Lifestyle Newborn Photography is all about.

There are some newborn sessions that beg to be in color & others that seem perfectly fit for black and white.  Although I delivery both black and white and color newborn images to the parents, I almost always have a favorite.  This particular newborn session begged to be in black and white.

Although I do guide my clients on posing during their newborn sessions, my  “poses” are more like directions that put the family in the right place with the right light to capture authentic moments as they happen.  The newborn with sibling pose is precisely one of those moments. 

Of course posing siblings during a newborn session isn’t always predictable, I love the things that just happen.  Apparently this big brother was finished posing with his sister.

Photographers often talk about capturing “light” when they speak about photography.  And they are correct in saying so however, I often find that when it comes to black and white photography, I often think about it in the opposite sense, as in how I would like to capture the shadows, which the light naturally follows.

I love creating simple, classic, elegant newborn portraiture that focuses primarily on what it most important, the little one and their family.  Black and white newborn photography is one of my favorite tools for accomplishing this very thing.
